Hillary Clinton has been slapped with a comparatively small $8,000 fine by the FEC for lying about the funding source of the infamous Steele dossier.

Clinton, along with the Democrat National Committee, were found by the FEC to have violated very strict guidelines regarding the correct disclosure of the money that was funnelled to Fusion GPS for the debunked information included in the Steele dossier, which claimed that President Trump was colluding with Russia.

The Clinton campaign and the DNC had sent a combined $1,024,407.97 to the law firm Perkins Coie for the dossier from Fusion GPS, but instead claimed the money was for “legal advice and services,” not opposition research. Nearly $800,000 came from the DNC, and about $100,000 from Clinton’s campaign.

The FEC disagreed, and slapped the Clinton campaign and the DNC with a fine of $8,000 and $105,000 respectively.

In a memo, the Clinton campaign and DNC refused to admit to lying, but will not contest the finding.

“Solely for the purpose of settling this matter expeditiously and to avoid further legal costs, respondent[s] does not concede, but will not further contest the commission’s finding of probable cause to proceed,” the FEC confirmed.

“This may well be the first time that Hillary Clinton – one of the most evidently corrupt politicians in American history – has actually been held legally accountable, and I’m proud to have forced the FEC to do their job for once,” said Dan Backer, who brought the complaint against Clinton and the DNC on behalf of the Coolidge Reagan Foundation over three years ago.

Last week, President Trump filed a lawsuit against Clinton and others, including the DNC, Perkins Coie, Fusion GPS, and Steele himself, for orchestrating the “unthinkable plot,” which the lawsuit says makes the Watergate scandal “pale in comparison.”

“Acting in concert, the Defendants maliciously conspired to weave a false narrative that their Republican opponent, Donald J. Trump, was colluding with a hostile foreign sovereignty,” the lawsuit, filed in a federal court in Florida argued. “They worked together with a single, self-serving purpose: to vilify Donald J. Trump.”
