Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, who is the sole Democrat running to become Georgia’s next governor, was a special guest star for the latest episode of the latest iteration of Star Trek.
She portrays the President of Earth, and most of her viral screen time is devoted to joining the Federation of Planets, the Star Trek universe’s analogue to the United Nations.
Abrams’ appearance apparently lasted approximately one minute. She exits what seems to be a semi-futuristic space shuttle and is greeted by an alien-looking person who is soon revealed to be the President of the Federation. She is introduced as the “President of United Earth.”
When the President of the Federation offered to begin diplomatic proceedings with President Abrams of Earth, Abrams demurred. (Note: Abram’s character is actually unnamed in the series.)
“Nothing to discuss. United Earth is ready right now to rejoin the Federation,” said President Abrams. “And nothing could make me happier than to say those words.”

Abrams is running unopposed to become the Democrat nominee for Governor of Georgia this November.
It’s unclear when the scene was recorded, or if ethical considerations were made.
Star Trek: Discovery is available on a streaming network, meaning it is not on over-the-air television and thus is not subject to the FCC’s equal time rule that theoretically keeps networks from offering air time to candidates as an unofficial campaign donation. All candidates may request equal time, and must have it granted, so long as the program airs on federally regulated TV and radio airwaves.
45th President Donald Trump famously left his hit TV show The Apprentice and its spinoff Celebrity Apprentice when he announced his intention to run for the White House in 2016. It is believed that the prospect of losing the series contributed to his decision not to run against President Barack Obama in 2012.
Thus far, Georgia Republicans have yet to settle on an opponent for Abrams.
Current Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp is the front runner for the moment, according to most polling, though he solidified his status as a personal enemy of Trump during the fallout from the 2020 election.
Around that time, Trump repeatedly promised to campaign on behalf of Kemp’s primary opponent.
Perhaps keeping his word, Trump recently endorsed David Perdue.
