Former Texas U.S. rep. and current gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke unwittingly became the subject of widespread mockery on Twitter after users noticed the state of his teeth in a photo he posted to the platform on Thursday.
O’Rourke, best known for failing to losing a U.S. Senate race to Ted Cruz (R-TX) in 2018 and failing to secure the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, posted a photo of himself wearing a shirt emblazoned with the slogan “Don’t mess with Trans Kids.”
Though O’Rourke may have intended for followers to focus on the socially fashionable slogan on the shirt, many users instead drew attention to his teeth, describing them as being in less than optimal condition.

Photographer: Ok for this shot we want you to look as repulsive as possible. Try to lean forward to make your arms look smaller and unnatural. Try to accentuate your yellowed disfigured teeth while contorting your face into something resembling a smile but inhuman.
Beto: Got it

Another aspect of O’Rourke’s dental hygiene that appeared to puzzle users is the fact that he infamously livestreamed a visit to the dentist’s office in January 2019, talking to his Instagram followers while dental professionals inserted various tools in his mouth.
O’Rourke appeared to walk back previous statements endorsing gun confiscation earlier this month, “I’m not interested in taking anything from anyone,” and “What I want to make sure that we do is defend the Second Amendment.”
The gubernatorial hopeful did, however, then proceed to attack Texas’ new constitutional carry law.
