Immediately after his speech, Trump’s social media accounts posted a new advertisement promoting his vision to “Make America Glorious Again” and inviting supporters to become involved.
The former president, twice impeached by the House when it was held by the Democratic Party then acquitted by the Senate, previously announced he would make a “special announcement” on November 15, one week after the midterm elections.
Trump’s official announcement follows almost two years of repeated hints and promises that his final decision regarding 2024 would make his supporters “very happy.”
Now, as Trump remains dogged by accusations that he somehow inspired or led an “insurrection” in January of 2021, and as he faces a potential Republican challenger in Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, the 76-year-old is poised to begin a lengthy battle in the Republican primaries next year.
Following his departure from office in 2021, the Republican Party clarified that it would welcome Trump to make another run for office, but would not cancel its primaries and caucuses to instead name Trump as the nominee.
