Embattled Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey sent two buses of immigrants to Washington, D.C. last week in what local media described as support for the Republican showdown over Border Patrol’s ability to send those who cross illegally back.
60 illegal immigrants departed Arizona for a more than 2,000 mile journey to Washington, D.C. on two buses last week, reported ABC 15.
Ducey, who became political enemies with 45th President Donald Trump during the fallout from the 2020 election, apparently took the action as part of a Republican showdown with the federal government that began with the news Biden is planning to end Title 42, the pandemic-era policy that allows Border Patrol “to turn away hundreds of thousands” of illegal immigrants due to fear they may spread COVID-19.
A lawsuit was brought to keep the policy in place, and a Louisiana judge is expected to determine the policy’s fate later this week.
The Justice Department argued that the CDC should be able to determine how immigrants enter the United States, noting that Title 42 is a health policy.
Ducey joins Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in the plot to send immigrants to Washington. The Texas governor collected private funds to transport the immigrants and began sending them across the country earlier this year.
When the immigrants arrived in the nation’s capital, they were greeted by activists who unsuccessfully attempted to block media as they exited the buses and entered a train station, apparently to be sent to unknown destinations.
Wid Lyman, a reporter for immigration aggregate site Border Hawk News, recorded as activists attempted to obscure him.
“We are asking you to stay outside so that these people who have been through a lot of sh*t can get some help without vultures taking pictures of them,” one activist said on camera.
Lyman, who is Latino, was also accused of having white “privilege” as he attempted to show the migrants entering Union station.

Don’t send just 60, send 60,000 that might have an impact.

Should concentrate on sending teenage males. DC needs them.
